Description

In our current culture, neurodivergent individuals often navigate environments that are not designed with their needs in mind. Many have survived by masking, leading to disconnection from authentic expression and internalized shame. Through a Nature-Based lens, we can shift how we conceptualize neurodivergence by moving away from pathology and toward curiosity, validation, and sensory-affirming inclusion.

This two-part professional training provides a framework for understanding and supporting neurodivergent individuals by first reimagining neurodivergence through a Nature-Based conceptual lens to promote curiosity, attunement, and compassion. The second part focuses on creating and integrating person-centered, Nature-Based interventions regardless of setting that promote regulation, authenticity, and connection.

Part 1: Conceptualizing Neurodivergence Through a Nature-Based Lens
Sun, 11/15/26 9am-12pm PST
3 CEs on Cultural Competence/Awareness

Explore how neurodivergence can be understood through a non-pathologizing perspective that centers curiosity, attunement, and compassion. Participants will examine the cultural and environmental contributors to shame and masking, and learn how to apply a Nature-Based framework to deepen understanding and reduce judgment in therapeutic and professional settings.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of Part 1, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe how a Nature-Based perspective can shift understanding of neurodivergence from pathology to curiosity.
  2. Analyze how environmental design and cultural attitudes contribute to shame and exclusion for neurodivergent individuals.
  3. Identify common adaptive strategies (e.g., masking, stimming, shutdowns) and the social dynamics that influence them.
  4. Apply curiosity, validation, and compassion as clinical and professional tools to reduce shame and enhance inclusion.

Part 2: Nature-Based and Neurodivergent-Affirming Interventions
Sun, 11/15/26 12:30pm-3:30pm PST
3 CEs on Cultural Competence/Awareness

Learn how to design and facilitate sensory-affirming and grounding experiences that honor neurodivergent expression. This session focuses on adapting Nature-Based practices regardless of setting to create inclusive spaces that support co-regulation, reflection, and authentic connection. Explore and learn to create Nature-Based interventions that authentically support common therapeutic goals.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of Part 2, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify environmental adaptations (e.g., light, sound, texture, movement, temperature) that promote sensory-affirming spaces.
  2. Design Nature-Based interventions that support sensory regulation, grounding, and reflection for neurodivergent clients.
  3. Integrate Nature collaboration ethically and intentionally into client-centered care.
  4. Implement strategies to co-create inclusive, attuned, and reflective interventions across settings (office, outdoor, and virtual).
