Part 1: Conceptualizing Neurodivergence Through a Nature-Based Lens

Explore how neurodivergence can be understood through a non-pathologizing perspective that centers curiosity, attunement, and compassion. Participants will examine the cultural and environmental contributors to shame and masking, and learn how to apply a Nature-Based framework to deepen understanding and reduce judgment in therapeutic and professional settings.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of Part 1, participants will be able to:
- Describe how a Nature-Based perspective can shift understanding of neurodivergence from pathology to curiosity.
- Analyze how environmental design and cultural attitudes contribute to shame and exclusion for neurodivergent individuals.
- Identify common adaptive strategies (e.g., masking, stimming, shutdowns) and the social dynamics that influence them.
- Apply curiosity, validation, and compassion as clinical and professional tools to reduce shame and enhance inclusion.
